29 Feb 2012 --WASHINGTON - At the end of the Civil War, the Freedmen's Bureau bought some 375 acres of land in Southeast D.C. and sold it to African Americans.
The area was known as Hillsdale and later Barry Farm. It was a community for newly freed African Americans.
But there is another lesser-known history of exclusion that is also important to our history here in the D.C. region. Chief historian for Cultural Tourism DC, Jane Levy, joined FOX 5 Wednesday to talk about African American history in the area. (SOURCE: My Fox DC)
