Throughout the centuries, people have captured, sold, bought, chained, compelled, and coerced other human beings. The practice has been so prevalent, has lasted so long, and has been so difficult to curb (it still exists in may countries) that it almost seems normal.

In this free liberal arts forum at SFU Vancouver in November 2011, we examined slavery and its astonishing prevalence and variety from antiquity to the present.

Richard Harvey, the lecturer, is a teacher of literature and a psychotherapist in private practice.
